When I am asked why I am still at Operis nearly 20 years since I joined, I generally give three reasons:
– The team. They are all lovely, fun, professional, ridiculously clever, curious, kind…many things that make it enjoyable to spend hours on end in their vicinity.
– The projects we work on. As those who know me better will attest, I genuinely believe that good infrastructure improves people’s lives so I take great solace in knowing that we don’t simply crunch numbers but make a positive contribution to society.
– Variety in my role. I have changed role at Operis every few years so while I am still in the same company, I have had many different jobs during that period of time and learned many different skills as a result.
Being COO at Operis for the best part of the last 5 years has been equally challenging and rewarding but it is time for another change!
I am going back to focusing more on our clients and project work by taking on greater business development responsibility. I have actually enjoyed learning about IT and negotiating leases but my heart lies in the project side of things, so I am excited at the prospect of immersing myself in those once again.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Operis and David Colver for supporting me (again!) with a change of focus and ever greater flexibility to at least attempt to balance a job I love with raising a young family and caring for old(er) family.
I am greatly looking forward to seeing lots of old clients and meeting new ones over the coming months (and secretly hoping that this will help me with getting a few more answers in the infra round at the IPFA quiz next year!)
