The University of Birmingham has entered a long-term partnership with Equitix and EQUANS to deliver world-class facilities at Pritchatts Park Student Village. The project, which reached financial close on 14 December 2021, will transform Pritchatts Park into state-of-the-art, low-carbon accommodation. To enhance the student and staff on-campus experience, the project will see existing accommodation refurbished and 496 new, high-quality student homes built, along with a multi-storey car park.
The construction and refurbishment works are to be delivered by September 2024. The project, which has had extensive design input from student representatives, will also see improvements to students’ social spaces and increase the number of rooms available for those with accessibility requirements. The new build townhouses have been designed to support energy efficiency through construction and operations, aligning with Equitix’s, EQUANS’s and University’s long term sustainable investment strategies.
Operis acted as sole financial advisor to the EQUANS and Equitix consortium, helping to structure the long term, index-linked institutional debt solution used to finance the project. Operis’s specialist tax and accounting team also provided accounting advisory services.
The Pritchatts Park scheme extends Operis’s experience in the sector following previously closed projects at Essex (3 phases), Durham, Leicester and York.
Chris Aldred, Director, said: “Operis is delighted to continue to support EQUANS and Equitix on another innovative and high quality development in the higher education sector, and to help deliver a strategically important project for the University of Birmingham.”
