On November 21, 2019, a consortium consisting of Marubeni and Total Solar submitted their bid to the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) for the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a 2GW solar PV plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region.
This project is integral to the UAE’s sustainable generation program, which aims to increase the clean energy mix in power generation as outlined in the UAE Energy Strategy 2050. The solar plant will provide electricity to over 110,000 households across the UAE and reduce 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
