The £75m Peterborough Waste project reached financial close on 1 February 2013.
Waste management firm Viridor was appointed preferred bidder to the project in August 2012. The project will see Viridor develop and manage new energy from waste facility in the city and this new plant will reduce the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill by more than 93 per cent.
The project is a thirty-year concession with construction expected to take two and a half years. The local authority will provide the financing via “prudential borrowing” whereby the servicing of this borrowing by the local authority is not related to the project performance and the obligation remains with the local authority.
Operis conducted financial model auditing services and a full tax and accounting review on behalf of the sponsors.
