Operis provided a comprehensive formal model audit to Pulse Clean Energy in support of its £52.5m financing for two synchronous condenser units in Upper Boat, Pontypridd, South Wales.

Synchronous condensers are vital to the energy transition, providing grid inertia and stability as power generation increasingly relies on weather-dependent sources such as wind and solar.

The synchronous condenser units form part of the National Energy System Operator’s Pathfinder 3 programme, which aims to manage grid voltage and stabilise grid frequency as the UK shifts from fossil fuels to renewable sources.

The project reached financial close in April 2026, with the first of the two synchronous condensers expected to be operational by Q4 2026.  NORD/LB provided £52.5m in funding.

Operis delivered the model audit in a timely and effective manner, helping Pulse Clean Energy to secure the funding from NORD/LB.

This follows the formal model audit Operis performed last year for Pulse Clean Energy in support of a £220m green loan financing for six new battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the UK.

Pulse Clean Energy is a leading developer and owner of utility-scale BESS and grid stability infrastructure in the UK, with a planned operational capacity in excess of 2GWh by 2030.
