Veolia has submitted its bid for the Project Gwyrdd on 8 August 2011.
Project Gwyrdd Waste is a joint regional partnership between Caerphilly Borough County Council, the County Council of the City and County of Cardiff, Monmouthshire County Council, Newport Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council. The combined municipal waste of the five authorities makes up 40% of the total municipal waste of Wales. The project will involve a 25-year contract, with the option for a five-year extension, dealing with 200,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.
A preferred bidder is expected to be selected in the summer of 2012, with the contract to be finalised that autumn.
Operis has worked with Veolia on a number of recent waste projects, including Staffordshire Waste and Leeds Waste. On this occasion Operis was appointed by Veolia to perform a full model audit including tax & accounting review.
