The Autopistas Metropolitanas de Puerto Rico consortium, consisting of Goldman Sachs Infrastructure Partners II (GSIP II) and Abertis, have achieved financial close on 22nd September 2011 on Project Tamarindo.
The USD 750m toll road concession involves the acquisition and maintenance of the highways PR-22 and PR-5. The PR-22 is a 51-mile long toll road that runs east to west along the northern coast of Puerto Rico and the PR-5 is a main highway withing the San Juan metropolitan area. It is the first P3 deal to reach financial close in Puerto Rico.
GSIP II is contributing about 55% of the equity stake of roughly USD450m.
