Operis has completed a full financial model review for the Ocker Hill 99 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a cutting-edge infrastructure project poised to enhance the United Kingdom’s energy resilience.
Located in the West Midlands, the Ocker Hill BESS is a strategic initiative developed by Eku Energy and marks a significant milestone in the UK’s energy transition. The project will deploy 54 Tesla Megapacks, with construction led by H&MV Engineering and commissioning expected by late 2026.
Once operational, the battery storage system will provide 198 MWh of energy storage capacity, supporting grid flexibility and renewable energy integration. SmartestEnergy, a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation, will manage the project’s operations under a decade-long tolling agreement.
Operis was engaged to conduct a rigorous financial model audit, including a comprehensive tax and accounting review. This due diligence was instrumental in securing debt financing from NatWest Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC Group).
The financing package includes both project-specific debt and an uncommitted £100 million accordion facility to support near-term UK developments, including assets from Eku Energy’s recent acquisition of Bluestone Energy Limited’s BESS portfolio.
This project reinforces Operis’s commitment to supporting complex, large-scale energy infrastructure through precise financial analysis and strategic insight.
