  • Operis Supports the National Western Center

    8 August 2020

Operis was pleased to provide a formal model audit for the design, construction finance, operation and maintenance of the utility plant buildings for the new campus of the National Western Center in Denver, Colorado.

The National Western Center has set a long-term goal of becoming a net-zero energy campus, in which the energy consumption would be offset by renewable on-site energy production. The current energy concept features include a sewer heat recovery system and an ambient campus-wide piping distribution loop.

The innovative technology used will avoid emitting approximately 2,600 metric tonnes of CO2 per year, which will improve air quality for the surrounding neighbourhoods and will be the largest clean technology system of its kind in North America.

“We believe in the power of more sustainable cities, and we know working with partners such as the National Western Center with a shared commitment to climate action and innovation is the key to building this future,” said Doug Castleberry, president and chief operating officer, Enwave USA. “Our sewer heat recovery technology will enable the campus to meet its ambitious clean energy goals. This a testament to Enwave’s capacity to develop innovative, resilient and financially feasible low-carbon solutions.”

EAS Energy Partners is the consortium sponsoring the 40-year project, which consists of Enwave Energy, AECOM Technical Services and Saunders Construction.
