  • Operis Supports Marubeni & Total in Doha Solar Project

    27 July 2020

Operis was pleased to provide a formal model audit for the development of a 800MW capacity solar PV plant at Al-Kharsaah, which is located approximately 80km west of the capital city of Doha.

The project will be procured on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis for a period of 25 years. The competitive power generation prices from solar are expected to save natural gas used in traditional power generation, along with reducing carbon emissions. The project is being developed by a consortium comprising Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Electricity and Water Company, Marubeni Corporation and Total Solar International, with senior financing provided by Japanese lenders JBIC and Mizuho. Once construction is completed, the plant will be the first large-scale solar PV plant in Qatar and the 800 MW capacity will equal approximately 10% of Qatar’s current peak electricity demand.

David Rosel, an Associate Director of Operis and based in London, says “We are delighted to have reached financial close on Qatar’s first large Solar PV project and it is promising to see an important project like this proceed despite the challenges created by Covid-19.”
