On November 19, 2019, National Broadband Ireland (NBI), a company established by Granahan McCourt, successfully signed a Public-Private Partnership with the Irish Government to deliver the National Broadband Plan (NBP). The NBP is the largest telecommunications procurement ever undertaken by the Irish State, with an aim to revolutionise the nation’s broadband network by delivering affordable, high-speed broadband to 537,000 premises across Ireland. This radical transformation will bridge the gap between rural and urban communities in both availability and quality of broadband.
The 25-year build, finance, own and operate project will be financed using a combination of State subsidies and commercial investment. Designing and surveying in the first deployment areas are scheduled to begin in January 2020. Key partners and subcontractors for this project include Kelly Group, KN Group, 4Site, Actavo and Nokia.
Operis was pleased to provide a full model audit for this project, including a review of the model’s tax and accounting treatments.
