The Montreal University Hospital Centre (Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal – CHUM) project in Montreal, Canada reached financial close on 10 June 2011.  Operis were mandated by the CHUM Collectif consortium.

The new 772-bed hospital will replace three older teaching hospitals currently in use and it will be among the largest university hospital centres in North America. Construction of the hospital is expected to take nine years, with part of the hospital becoming active after five years. A thirty year concession period will follow the construction phase, during which the consortium will maintain the new site.The CHUM Collectif consortium comprises of HCP Social Infrastructure (Canada), Obrascón Huarte Lain, S.A., Dalkia Canada Inc and Laing O’Rourke PLC.

The project is being financed by issuing $CAD1.37 billion of amortising bonds, with RBC the underwriter.

Operis provided financial model audit services as well as tax and accounting review on behalf of the consortium at bid stage, bond marketing and at financial close.
