A1(M) from Junction 6 (Hertfordshire) to junction with A1 at Junction 10 (Bedfordshire). A1 from A1(M) Junction 10 (Bedfordshire) to A1(M) DBFO Alconbury South Interchange (Cambridgeshire). M11 from Junction 10 (Cambridgeshire) to Junction 14, A14 Girton interchange, (Cambridgeshire). A11 from a point approximately 0.2km north of the A11/A301/M11 Stumps Cross Interchange (Cambridgeshire) to its merge with the A14 Junction 36 at Nine Mile Interchange west of Newmarket (Cambridgeshire). A5 from M1 Junction 9 (Hertfordshire) to B5414 Junction west of Catthorpe (Warwickshire), including A5 link road and roundabout from M1 Junction 18 to A5 at Rugby Radio Station. There is potential for parts of the network to be transferred to and from neighbouring area commissions/authorities during the lifetime of the contract. The following routes will be removed from the Area 8 network and transfer to Area 7 on 1 July 2009: M1 from Junction 15, Collingtree (Northamptonshire) to Junction 19 (Leicestershire) M6 from M1 Junction 19 to A14 entry and exit slip roads (Leicestershire). M45 in its entirety from M1 Junction 17 (Northamptonshire) to terminal roundabout at A45 immediately west of Dunchurch (Warwickshire). M45 in its entirety from M1 Junction 17 (Northamptonshire) to terminal roundabout at A45 immediately west of Dunchurch (Warwickshire). A5 from A422/A508 junction, Old Stratford to B5414 junction west of Catthorpe (Warwickshire), including A5 link road and roundabout from M1 Junction 18 to A5 at Rugby Radio Station. A14 from M1 Junction 19 (Leicestershire) to A45/A605 interchange (J13), Thrapston (Northamptonshire). A43 from M40 Junction 10, Ardley (Oxfordshire) to M1 Junction 15A, Rothersthorpe (Northamptonshire). A45 from M1 Junction 15 Collingtree (Northamptonshire) to A14 Junction 13, Thrapston (Northamptonshire). The Highways Agency is currently reviewing the boundary between Area 5 and Area 8. Subject to the outcome of this review, the following routes may be added to the Area 8 network on 1 April 2009: M1 from immediately north of Junction 6a, the M25 interchange (Hertfordshire) to Junction 8 (Hertfordshire). M10 from M1 Junction 7 (Hertfordshire) to M10 Junction 1 (Hertfordshire). A1(M) from Junction 4 (Hertfordshire) to Junction 6 (Hertfordshire).

Short description of the contract or purchase(s):

 

Integrated network management, maintenance and improvement activities on the all purpose trunk roads and motorways in the Agency area. The duties will include all routine and cyclic road and bridges maintenance works including winter maintenance and delivery of capital schemes up to 500 000 GBP in the Agency area. Duties will also include the provision of planning advice, design, co-ordination and supervision of maintenance and improvement schemes within specified values up to a limit of 5 000 000 GBP, and to manage works above these values if so instructed, with ongoing development of customer service provision in accordance with HA's standards and objectives. The provider may also be required to carry out duties relating to the management, maintenance, improvement and undertaking of works to electrical and electronic systems on motorways and trunk roads. The work will be carried out under the supervision of the Highways Agency in Bedford to whom reports will be made.
