Maesgwyn Wind Farm Reaches Financial Close The Maesgwyn Windfarm project reached financial close on 22 October, 2009. Thirteen wind turbines will be built over the former Maesgwyn and Derlwyn open cast mines. According to the Infrastructure Journal, this is the first project financed renewable energy facility with a capacity in excess of 20MW to reach financial close in the UK this year.
The wind farm will supply clean energy to the equivalent of approximately 30,000 homes. The 26 MW project is located in South Wales and was sponsored by Pennant Walters and the HBSC Infrastructure Fund. The senior debt facilities were provided by Barclays. Operis performed financial model due diligence, including tax and accounting, in support of the sponsors in the lead up to financial close.
